Skin Tags, Moles, Cysts and Lumps

What are Skin Tags?

Skin tags are benign lesions that protrude from the surface of the skin by a narrow stem. These tags are also seen more frequently in older individuals and are often linked to the aging process.

There are a number of specific factors that might contribute to the formation of skin tags, including skin irritation caused by friction, hormonal fluctuations during pregnancy or some underlying medical conditions. Heredity may also play a role in the likelihood of developing skin tags.

What are Maturity Spots?

Maturity spots, also referred to as age spots, liver spots or sun spots, are small brown patches that appear on the skin. They are commonly seen in areas that get a lot of sun exposure, such as the face and backs of the hands.

These spots are caused by excess production of melanin, which might be spurred by UV exposure or the natural aging process.

Moles, Cysts, and Lumps

The vast majority of skin moles and cysts are harmless, in that they do not present significant medical problems. Some, however, can indicate the presence of skin cancer, and every skin mole should be monitored to gauge whether it changes over time.

Even the most benign of moles, cysts, or lumps can be unwanted if you feel its presence affects the image your face puts forward.

Total Skin Care Treatment Options

Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy freezes the skin tag off using liquid nitrogen.

Electrosurgery

Electrosurgery uses electrical currents to burn off the skin tag.

Surgery

Excision surgery removes the skin tag via a tiny incision.

Ligation

Ligation involves tying a suture around the skin tag to remove it.

Microdermabrasion

This exfoliation treatment uses a diamond-tipped wand to remove outer layers of skin where the excess melanin is located, leaving smoother, blemish-free skin underneath.

Chemical Peels

These treatments work in a similar fashion to microdermabrasion, only a chemical solution takes the place of the tool used to remove outer skin cells. Peels are carefully chosen to work with the patient’s skin type for the best possible results.

Topical Solutions

Since age spots form in the outer layers of skin, topical solutions containing active ingredients like hydroquinone that penetrate the epidermis can be effective in fading maturity spots. However, it typically requires a prescription-strength solution to achieve real results.

Real Results

Results from skin tag removal are seen right away and are considered permanent. In most cases, scarring is minimal if it is visible at all after the procedure. New skin tags can develop in the same area, necessitating additional treatment to remove them.
