The process involves cooling of the fat below the skin and begins within a few minutes of placing the applicator on the body. You may even feel some intense coldness which will quickly go away. With some applicators and in some locations there may be a pulling sensation because of the suction that is applied. After about five to ten minutes the area being treated will usually become numb. Most people pass their time by reading, watching videos, working on their laptop, or even taking a nap. Once the treatment is over you may feel some tingling in the area that has been treated as being massaged for a few minutes. You can expect to return to normal activities the day after your appointment.

Rarely this may last for a couple of weeks but will completely resolved. About two weeks after you complete your treatment you may note some redness, bruising or swelling, tenderness, cramping, aching and itching, or skin sensitivity over the area that has been treated. These symptoms may last for a few weeks but will clear spontaneously over time. If they do not, then please contact us. Rare side effects may include:
- Paradoxical hyperplasia
- Rarely the area that is treated can become enlarged because of swelling of tissue. This would occur two to five months after the treatment and may require surgical treatment.
- Freezer burn effects, both first and second degree have been reported but resolve without consequence if treated properly.
- Dizziness, light headiness, nausea, flushing, sweating and fainting may occur during or immediately after your CoolSculpting session.
- Subcutaneous generalized hardness or nodules can develop in the treatment area and may be uncomfortable. These do resolve over time.
- Increased pigmentation can occur at the site of treatment. This also usually resolves spontaneously.
CoolSculpting should not be used around areas of hernias as it may worsen hernias.
How long does it take for results to occur?
Improvement in the contour can sometimes be seen as soon as three weeks after your treatment but most dramatic results will be present at two months. It is important to know that your body will still continue to flush out fat cells for four to six months after treatment. This is why it is important for you to have your photographs done for comparison.
What do I do about weight control?
We recommend healthy eating and routine exercise as the best way to control weight. CoolSculpting is not a weight loss regime but designed to contour the skin. Many people who have had treatment find themselves more motivated to take improved care of themselves. If weight is gained, it will happen evenly over the whole body and not be localized to the treated area.
